The season started later than usual as the COVID pandemic had just started. But when they gave us the go ahead it was lights out fishing from the start…

The Raritan Bay is a special place to striped bass fish.  On most trips we saw limit catches while casting jigs and fishing live bait. Very rarely do we have to troll up there. But will do so if needed. The biggest fish of the spring was a whopper 45 pounder caught by one of my regular clients bill on a live bunker.  We had many fish in the 30 pound range and even more in the 10-20 pound range.

The first week in June I moved the boat back down to her summer and fall home of shark river to start tuna fishing. The early season Bluefin bite was nothing short of amazing. From trolling to casting poppers to jigging it was lights out on every trip.

We had a lull in action due to me selling the old boat to getting the new boat setup. The 35 Seahunter! But once the new boat was rigged in the beginning of august we went right back to where we left off. Putting fish on the deck!

Fluke Fishing

August is always a good time to fluke fish out of shark river. The structure holds big fish!  We entered the SJSWA anglers annual summer fluke tournament on August 22 and took home the win.  We had a good crew of sharpies and boated a limit plus of nice fluke!  We had 3 fish over 9 pounds but didn’t break that 10 pound door mat mark! Not only did the crew catch the winning fish, but we also swept every calcutta, a nice pay day for the captain and crew!

Yellowfins

This year off the coast of NJ was the most insane yellow fin bite we’ve seen in a long time! I was leaving the dock on many trips at 4am and heading back in by 2pm with a boat load of fish! Hopefully this upcoming summer is as good as last summer!

Fall Striped Bass and Blackfish

The fall run of ocean striped bass this year was also really good! We boated are biggest bass ever, a true cow 54 inches  long! Caught by Makenna on a sand eel! Many trips saw over 20 bass boated along with some nice slammer blues!!

Blackfish fishing proved to be tough for most of the fleet. Some days were decent some days just flat out sucked! But we fished hard and every trip we were able to scratch away at some nice keepers for the clients to go home with.

December 24th I pulled the boat to put her away and get some serious upgrades during the winter months! She will be back in the water and fishing the Raritan Bay weather pending at the end of March! Thank you to everyone that fished with me in 2020! If 2021 is anything like 2020 it’s looking like it’s going to be another banner fishing season! I look forward to seeing everyone and having some record catches!!
